Mavis Stevens Obituary

"She was far more precious than jewels." Mavis Parker Stevens, 102, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 27, 2025. She was born on July 13, 1923, in Clay County, AL to Catura Jones Parker and Luther Jackson Parker. She graduated from Mellow Valley School. On July 4, 1942, Mavis married William Thomas Stevens, her beloved husband of 65 years. They lived in Alexander City and were faithful members of Calvary Heights Baptist Church. In December 2014 Mavis moved to Birmingham to be near her family. She became a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church where she greatly enjoyed her life group and the Dawsonaires. In her later years Mavis received amazing care from Lipford Home Care, especially Mable Benson.
Mavis was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and encourager. She lived a life of joy and unselfish service to her family and friends. She enjoyed leading bus trips with her friends. A special memory is a trip to Ireland in 2017 with her daughter Charolette to visit her niece Rhonda. Mavis was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Charles Parker, sisters Nell Pritchett and Evelyn Smith. She is survived by her daughter Charolette Hamby (Tommy), son William Jackson Stevens (Kimeran), grandsons Todd Hamby (Lana), Scott Stevens (Shelley), Steven Hamby, Mark Hamby (Michelle), Drew Stevens (Sarah), Jeff Hamby (Holleigh), 10 precious great grandchildren who brought her much joy, nephew Wayne Parker (Beverly), nieces Rhonda Clippinger and Judy Pearce (Roger), and some special cousins.
After a family graveside service in Alexander City on January 7, a celebration of life will be held on January 8, 2026, at 11:00 in the chapel of Dawson Memorial. Visitation will start at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dawson Building Fund, 1114 Oxmoor Road, Birmingham, AL 35209.
