Max Arthur Cox

Max Arthur Cox, 93, of Winchester, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2025.
Born November 4, 1931, in Winchester, Indiana, Max was the son of Kenneth "Jack" and Agnes (Arthur) Cox. His life was defined by dedication-to his country, his community, and his family.
In October 1949, Max enlisted in the United States Army, beginning a distinguished 20-year career that included tours in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and was twice awarded the Bronze Star with Valor. He retired honorably in November 1969.
On March 18, 1953, Max married the love of his life, Maxine Gullett. They shared over 70 years of devotion and companionship. After returning to Winchester, Max continued to serve his community through positions with the Winchester Police Department, Overmyer Mould Company, and Rickert Oil. Well into his eighties, he could be found mowing a neighbor's yard and lending a hand wherever needed. A dedicated member of the Shriners Hospital and Masonic Lodge #56, Max proudly upheld over fifty years of active membership in both organizations.
Max is survived by his son, Rick Cox (Glenda); granddaughter, Courtney Cox (Jacques Oestreich); and devoted friend, Charles Williams (Linda), along with many other beloved family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine; and sister,
Janet Reiber. Max will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his integrity, kindness, and unwavering sense of duty. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Alison Syme for her years of compassionate care.
A service to celebrate Max's life will be at 1 p.m., on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Walker Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Straley officiating. Burial will follow at Fountain Park Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
