Max McGhee, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 30, 2025. He was born in Spring City, Tennessee on October 28, 1942. He was the devoted husband of Kay Kohler McGhee. Their marriage spanned 60 years, an extraordinary commitment that is seldom seen. Together, Max and Kay built a legacy rooted in family, kindness, and faith. He remained loyal to a single company for 47 years, retiring at the age of 82. Max was also an Air Force Veteran, who honorably served his country. His unwavering devotion to those he loved fueled his spirit, and he found solace and strength during quiet moments spent on his lawnmower—his sanctuary—where he would talk to God, sing, and seek resolve for life’s challenges.
Max’s greatest joy was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Kay, and his daughters: Mia Hall (Scott), Marcie Barkley (Rick), Jennifer Ellis (Shermit), and Lindsey Beall. His memory will forever be cherished by his grandchildren—Tommy, Hannah, Tyler, Max, Seth, Grace, Ryleigh, Hope, Cara, Luke, Roman, Gianna, and Noah—and by his great-grandchildren: Liam, Renzo, and Finley; sister, Barbara Scott. Max joins his parents Samuel and Pauline McGhee; and his beloved son, Matthew, and grandson, Samuel, who preceded him in passing.
Known for his joyful spirit, Max brought light and laughter to all who knew him. He cheered passionately for his beloved Tennessee Volunteers, shared his love for sports and coaching, and didn’t mind being silly to make others laugh. Max’s love of singing—whether a familiar tune or a melody of his own—filled his home with comfort and joy. His voice, laughter, and playful personality created a warm, welcoming atmosphere for family and friends. Those who knew Max will forever remember his kindness, his humor, and the way he made every person feel welcome, valued, and loved.
A pillar of strength and compassion in his community, Max touched the lives of everyone he met with his warmth and wisdom. His devotion to his family and faith was evident in all he did, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Max’s remarkable life on Saturday, November 8th, at River of Life Church in Covington, Louisiana. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Let us come together to honor a man whose legacy of love will live on forever in the hearts of those he cherished.
