MAX VEST Obituary

MAX VEST JR. Max Vest Jr., passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, at the age of 88. He was born in North Bend, Ohio, on May 17, 1936, to Max M. Sr. and Catherine (nee Fleek) Vest. Max was a proud graduate of Taylor High School, class of 1955. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, proudly serving overseas for over two years with the Army Security Agency. On a bright December day, just days before he was deployed, Max married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Clark, on December 23, 1955. Together, they embarked on a beautiful journey of love that spanned nearly 69 years. Upon returning home, he joined Procter & Gamble, where he worked as a mechanic for 35 years, famously welding the very machine that produced Pringles - a tasty connection that brought joy to his family, who fondly remember enjoying them fresh off the press. Max was a dedicated father, instilling a love for nature in his children as they spent countless weekends camping, boating, and hiking together. Max and Peggy camped together in every U.S. state (except Hawaii). Max was active in the Masonic fraternity, proud to belong to Snow Lodge, and belonged to St. John's Church. Max is survived by his devoted wife Peggy; his dear children, Mark Vest and twins, David (Amy) Vest and Monica (Robert) Kreinest; and cherished grandchildren - Sarah Schroff, Joe (Heather) Vest, Mike (Heather) Vest, Craig (Erin) Kreinest, Lauren (Brandon) Foster, and Kevin (Alexi) Kreinest. He was a doting great-grandfather to Sophie and Bella Schroff, Luke and Abigail Vest, Myles Vest, Owen, Caleb, Chase Foster, and Ashton Kreinest. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Grace Dole, Fran Clark, and numerous nieces and nephews. Max was preceded in death by his parents: Max Vest Sr. and Catherine (nee Fleek) Vest; brothers-in-law: Gilson "Sonny" Clark and Bertrum "Butch" Dole. To celebrate Max's extraordinary life and the indelible mark he left in the hearts of all who knew him, a gathering of friends will occur at Brater Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine Street, Harrison, OH 45030, on Saturday, May 10, 2025. from 10 a.m. leading into the Masonic Service at 12 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service led by Rev. Scott Holland. Interment will take place at Glen Haven Cemetery, where Max will be honored with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Army and the Harrison Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to a charity of donors choice in Max's memory.
