Maxie Hooker Obituary
A resident of Erie for over 40 years, she worked for GECAC Headstart, Twinbrook Medical Center and retired from UPMC Hamot. She was baptized at an early age at Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church, and rededicated herself in the name of Jesus at Abundant Life Ministries in Erie, PA.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family. She loved cooking, current events and politics. She was also an avid sports fan. Her favorite teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jethroe Hooker, A.C. Hooker, James E. Hooker, Reverend Johnnie C. Hooker, Curtis C. Hooker and Joe N. Hooker; sisters, Jessie R. Hawthorne, Louise Atkins and Gwendella Reed; and two sister-in-laws, Desiree Hooker and Edna Hooker.
She leaves many who will cherish her memory: three children, DeWayne Hooker (YahMoorah Shakoor-Hooker), Rebecca Hooker-Gore (Thomas Gore Sr.) and Aneika J. Jordan (Derick Jordan) all of Erie; grandchildren, Williams Stephens Jr., Devin Stephens, Jamaré Stephens, Daquaja Stephens, Deontre Jordan, DeAmari Jordan, Aniyah Jordan and grand-dog, King; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Rudd of Philadelphia, PA; brothers, Ellis Hooker (Patricia) and Jimmie Hooker (Carolyn) both of Milwaukee, WI; aunt, Geneva Ross of Los Angeles, CA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc, Downtown, 602 W. 10th St., on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Ryan Gaines. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery.
She will be dearly missed by all.
