Maxine Turner Haas passed away at Boone Hospital Center the morning of June 17, 2013 at the age of 88. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Memorial Funeral Home, with a service at 11 a.m. Graveside burial immediately following the service. Maxine, a lifelong resident of Columbia, was born July 25, 1924 to parents Richard Dewey Turner and Lurline (Hudson) Turner. She graduated from Hickman High School in the class of 1942 and attended Orton-Rice Business School in Columbia. She worked at General Telephone Company and as an Administrative Assistant at University of Missouri, Agronomy Department and Extension Department. She was married on September 21, 1947 to Raymond Eugene Haas, who preceded her in death in 1983. Maxine enjoyed the many friendships she and her husband cultivated through square dancing. She was active for many years at the Boone County Historical Society and had an interest in studying genealogy and Boone County history. She was an avid reader, and even after becoming visually impaired, she frequently enjoyed audio books. She is survived by daughter, Rayma Haas, son-in-law, George Purdy, and grand-daughter, Elizabeth Purdy of Seattle, Washington; cousins Grace Hudson Brothers of Hannibal, Missouri, Jackie Hudson Ravenscraft of Kansas City, and Sharron Turner McKeon of Bluffton, South Carolina. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Wolfner Library, P.O. Box 440147, St. Louis, MO 63144-1047.
