Obituary published on Legacy.com by Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home, Inc. - Anderson on Mar. 3, 2026.
With heavy hearts and deep love, we share the passing of Maxine Lomax, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a friend to many, passed away early morning on March 3rd, 2026, at the age of 77, leaving behind a legacy of strength, resilience, and quiet but unwavering love.
Though she stood only five feet tall, she carried the spirit of someone much larger. She was strong, feisty, and never afraid to stand her ground. Those who knew her understood that her love was not always spoken in words. She rarely said, "I love you," but she didn't need to. Her love was shown through her actions, her sacrifices, and the way she cared for the people around her. It was steady, protective, and deeply felt. She carried a quiet wisdom and always seemed to know exactly what to say.
For 33 years, she worked at the Kroger Bakery in
Anderson, South Carolina, where her dedication and hard work reflected the same strength and commitment she showed throughout her life. To those who knew her best, she was far more than an employee or family matriarch. To many, she was a family doctor, herbalist, mentor, family historian, and trusted advisor, always offering guidance, remedies, stories, and the kind of advice that only comes from a lifetime of lived experience.
Maxine also found joy in the simple beauty of nature. She loved tending to her garden, nurturing life with the same care and patience she gave to the people around her. Watching things grow brought her peace, and her garden was often a quiet reflection of her spirit.
She was the kind of woman who taught strength simply by the way she lived. Through life's challenges, she remained resilient and determined, showing her family what it meant to keep going, to stand tall, and to care deeply for the people you love.
She was preceded in death by her beloved late husband Timothy "Ronnie" Lomax, her daughter Michaela Cullin, her mother Virginia Cunningham, her father John Henry Cullins Sr., her brother Norman Cullins, and her great-nephew Juwan Jenkins.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving children Katina Lomax (Mikey Robinson), Titus Lomax, Taurean Lomax, and Latisha Carter (Corey Carter). She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters and brother Georgia Ann Holmes, Geraldine Jenkins, Earline Harris, and John Henry Cullins Jr., along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends whose lives she touched throughout the years.
Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren Delacey Lomax (Alexis Brewington), Brooklyn Scott, Marlayna Lomax, Tame'shae Cowans, and Darkiesha Cullins, and her cherished great-grandchildren Killian Lomax and Kaseem Lomax.
To her family, she was a guiding presence and a source of strength. She created memories that will live on through stories, laughter, and the many lessons she passed down without even realizing it. The love she gave so fiercely will continue to shape the lives of those she leaves behind.
Though she may no longer walk beside us, her strength, her spirit, and the love she showed through a lifetime of actions will remain with us always. When you see a garden in bloom, take a moment to remember Maxine.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family is at 2517 McKinley Drive,
