Maxine Ione Rader, age 84, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away on December 30, 2025, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri.
Maxine was born on October 31, 1941, in Mattoon, Illinois, to William Glenn Roby and Merle Isabel (Kirk) Roby. She graduated from Lamar High School with the class of 1960. On December 5, 1965, she was united in marriage to Frank Edward Rader in Lamar.
Maxine took great pride in being a homemaker. She was an active member of Milford Christian Church and was involved in numerous community organization, including the Lamar Art League, Farm Club, Golf League, Red Hat Society, and Barton County Republican Women's Club. She also served as a District Chair Representative for the Barton County Republicans.
She loved to travel when she could, which included going to baseball spring trainings for 17 years, Kansas City Chiefs games, and visiting almost every single state except for four.
In 1980, she started her business, Maxine's Country Crafts and continued to paint, crochet, and sew various crafts and art pieces for 45 years. She set up many booths within the four-state area. Almost every year she would take artwork to the Ozark Empire and Lamar Fair. Every year she would garden various vegetables and beautiful flowers. Maxine had a very green thumb, she had so many plants inside and outside her home that she was constantly giving away plants.
Survivors include one son, David Rader of Lamar, Missouri; one daughter, Cynthia (Monte) Johnson of Carl Junction, Missouri; one granddaughter, Sydney Johnson of Rogers, Arkansas; a sister, Glenda Epple and a brother, Carl Roby, both of Lamar, Missouri.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband of 50 years, Frank.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Milford Christian Church. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Lake Cemetery, Lamar, Missouri.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2026, prior to the service, at Milford Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Milford Christian Church General Fund and may be left in the care of Daniel Funeral Home.
