It is with a heavy heart we inform you of the passing of Ms. Maya James. Maya (born Nov 16, 2005) was a 15-year-old full of love and spunk, who experienced the disabilities of Down syndrome and autism. Maya passed away on April 6th in Hanover, NH, surrounded by the love of her family.
Maya never met a dog she didn't love and that didn't love her right back. She loved splashing in the lake and riding her bike on the local trails. Maya had a spirited love for music and videos. While Maya had challenges both physical and cognitive, she brought an admirable perseverance and good attitude. She overcame so much in her short lifetime. Maya brought love and joy into the lives of all who knew her. Her smile melted hearts everywhere. Her hugs were legendary; they were strong and always with a pat on your back. Her loss will be felt deeply by her school (KRMS), local community, friends, and most of all her family. Maya is survived by her twin brother Marvell, sister Mary, mother Emily, and father Martin. She is additionally survived by her aunt Kate Shaffar, uncle Tal Shaffar, and her cousins Jeremy and Ari. Our love and prayers go out to them.
We will hold a service during the summer in one of her favorite places by the beach. In the meantime, if you would like to offer your condolences and special memories of Maya by email, please send them to Carrie Duran at [email protected]. Carrie is collecting memories for the family. If you would like to send the family a card through the mail her address is:
