Maynard was born on September 4, 1950, in Platteville, Wisconsin, to the late John Robert Kastner and Sylvia Louise Kastner. He spent his early years in Platteville, learning the values of hard work and dedication from his parents.

Over the course of his career, Maynard worked diligently as a coal sampler, a role he undertook with great commitment and integrity. His work was a testament to his steadfast nature and provided him with a sense of purpose throughout his life.

Maynard is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Jane Kastner, who stood by his side through all of life's trials and triumphs, and his daughter, Angela Sinclair. Together, they shared a life filled with mutual respect and love.
