2 Timothy 4:7 "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith"
Reverend Dr. McKelvie Christopher Garvin, affectionately known as "CP", was born January 12, 1931, to the late Deacon Adam McClary Garvin and the late Sister Florence Footman Garvin, in Dorchester County, SC.
Dr. Garvin received salvation at an early age.
He was a graduate 1952 of Memorial High School. He furthered his education at South Carolina State University and received a bachelor's degree in agriculture. Dr. Garvin went on to obtain a Master's Degree from University of Brooklyn in 1975. He continued his education by enrolling at New York Theology School obtaining a Bachelors, a second Masters and a PhD.
Dr. Garvin was a statesman among preachers. He spent his life cultivating and training preachers for ministry. He has authored several books and has read the Bible in its entirety fifty-two times. He has been a teacher, professor, and pastor. Up until he transitioned he held bible study twice a week and was on the radio. Dr. Garvin was noted for being a living epistle being read of men. He wholistically lived the life that he preached about.
"CP" had a congenial attitude and had the ability to electrify a room with his mere presence. He had an uncanny sense of humor and that coupled with his educational background made his preaching and teaching second to none.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by three wives and fourteen siblings.
His life's journey will be treasured by his son, Mendes (Michelle L.) Garvin; stepdaughters Ruth H. (Joseph) Davis and Bernice H. (Nathan) Cunnigham; brothers, Raymond Garvin and Albert Garvin; beloved sister, Fanny Garvin; ten grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, collaborators of gospels, and students.
On Sunday, March 3, 2024, Dr. Garvin transitioned to be at rest after a brief illness. He will forever be loved, remembered, and cherished. A godly man and a true servant.

March 6, 2024

My name is Cynthia Latimer-Latimore of born in Greenville SC, living in Mauldin SC.

Dr. Rev. Mckelvie Garvin was my favorite pastor for many years. He also was my teacher at his Bible College. I graduated under his teaching and college with a Masters and Bachelors degree in Theology. He was a joy to know and I thought of him like he was my Grandfather. He was a very kind man, he helped many people struggling when he could. He loved to joke, laugh and have fun too and would always say jokingly but meant it, you would really make me happy if you bring me a roll of bologna. He loved his bologna. He was an excellent teacher and pastor. From his teaching came many pastors. I became a Veteran of War, District 4 Chaplain, going on 4 years. Arriving at the church were he pastored and still taught Sunday school was sad not to see him there when told he had pass that morning. We and my brother was so sad, so was the church that morning. There was a big void in the service. My brother and I love and will truly miss Doc Garvin as he was affectionately called. He said a lot of the times , Get your house in order because, you never know when the Lord will return and you want to be ready when he do return. Rest In heavenly Peace, Doc Garvin. We love you.
