Mearl Charley Obituary

Mearl Charley, 55, of Altoona PA passed away on September 29,2024 after battling a long-term illness. He was born and raised in Bloomfield, NM and graduated there in 1988. He enlisted in the US Navy and was a Yeoman for four years. He served on the USS America during Desert Storm. He was a member of the VFW Post 2076. He met and married Jennifer Soliday and though they divorced, he remained like a brother/son with her and her family for 33 years. Mearl was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents James and Julia Charley, his sister Linda Charley, brother Erwin Charley, his father-in-law Jim Soliday, and brother-in-law Herb Willie. He is survived by his sisters Brenda Newton and Belinda Willie, brothers Mike (Yvette)Charley and Earl Castillo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and "grandchildren", and family in Pennsylvania. Mearl is now reunited with his beloved cat "Bobbi" (named after the Bloomfield Bobcats) as well as all his family members that passed before him. He is now cheering on his Steelers from heaven. He is deeply loved and will be missed always. "It's not goodbye brother, it's see you later". A memorial service is to take place on October 26th at The Masters Hand Church in Bloomfield at 10:00 with a small reception to follow.
