Megan Evans Carlotta Holland

Megan Evans Carlotta Holland was born on October 9, 1980, in Nashville, TN to MC and Myrtle Evans Holland, the third child of this union, the youngest grandchild on her paternal side, and the fourth grandchild on her maternal side of the family.  She was a sweet, gentle baby, and acquired the nickname Meggie Pie.  Her family loved and adored her personality because she always displayed wit, charm, and compassion, laced with shenanigans.  She departed this sweet life on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at her residence in Mt Juliet, Tennessee.

 

An exceptional student (who would literally cry over receiving a ‘B’), was educated in the Nashville Davidson County Schools and graduated from Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School in 1999.  Upon graduation, she attended Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and International Business in 2003.  While at Pepperdine she spent two years enriching lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina via the study abroad program at the Universidad de Belgrano.  Upon graduation she returned to Nashville to begin her professional career as a Spanish teacher for Metro Nashville Public Schools, as well as a private tutor for students throughout middle Tennessee.  Her thirst for knowledge continued unabated as she went on to earn two post graduate degrees from David Lipscomb University (1) Master of Art in Learning and Teaching, and (2) Master in Business Administration. Unsatisfied with those accomplishments, she started a nonprofit, Women of Kolor Empowered (WOKE), which catered to health disparities concerning women of color, as well as several small “side hustles.”        

 

Megan was baptized and united with Christ at the Schrader Lane Church of Christ at the age of 12 in 1993.  She used her passion for teaching and her love of other cultures to support mission work led by the Schrader Lane Church of Christ.  By the age of 20, she had traveled to Belize Central America five times to help spread the Gospel of Christ.  Affectionately dubbed ‘Megan Bean’ by many Belizean children, she traveled there with other devoted youth, significantly impacting the lives of the Belizeans and edifying her fellow Christian brothers and sisters.  She also contributed to the Nigerian Christian Institute mission effort in her participation in the 2009 Mission trip to Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria hosted by this congregation.  

 

Megan’s extensive hobbies included reading, international travel, being an avid fan of ‘America’s Next Top Model’, wearing high heeled shoes, and shopping. Her shoe, purse, and makeup collections would rival most celebrity collections.  However, she truly loved to eat. If she enjoyed your personal culinary skills or any restaurant dish, she was going to request those meals, dishes, and restaurants any time the mood struck her.  She had been known to drive to Atlanta within the course of a day just to enjoy some Pappadeaux’s.  If she didn’t have stock in Ubereats, then it was a missed opportunity.

Megan was diagnosed with Dysautonomia, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome and multiple other complications in 2013.  She fought the conditions like a ferocious warrior as it impacted her health and quality of life.  She took advantage of the opportunity to advocate and teach others who are fighting the medical condition. Through her advocacy, she started nonprofit WOKE to educate, provide resources, and increase awareness of the condition.  

Megan is survived by her mother, Dr. Myrtle Evans; father, MC (Annie) Holland, Jr.; sister Maria (Dr. Joseph) Anderson; brother, Marcus Holland; nieces, Cameron Anderson and Chloe Anderson; devoted uncle, Timothy Harris; uncles, John (Linda) Grayson, Curtis Holland, and Sonnie (Rhonda) Holland; aunts, Delores Grayson, Rhonda (Clarence) Willingham, Nellie Smith, Susie Townsend, Carrie (William) Townsend, and a host of cousins and devoted friends.
