Mel will be much missed. I had the privilege of working with him for quite a while and also had lots of fun times.
A true gentleman with a kind and generous heart, always up for a laugh and ready to help anyone if he could.

As an American, I first fell for the multi talented Mel Smith when I saw his portrayal as Winston Churchill at the Edinburgh Theater Festival. (And then adored of course the uproar he caused with really smoking a cigar onstage!) I was so enamoured, I went back to see the play as many times as I could. I am saddened that the world will be be without his humor and talents, and offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I'm really saddened about the death of Mel Smith. Never knew Mel personally, but was aware of his work. The film I'll always remember wasn't listed in his obituary. It's the screwball comedy "BRAIN DONORS" with John Turturro and Bob Nelson. I loved it when Mrs. Ogelthorpe asked Rocko (Mel) if he knew dogs. Rocko answered "KNOW DOGS!" I used to be a chef in a Korean restaurant. Mel will be missed terribly.
