Melanie Carroll Obituary

Melanie Rose Carroll, 25
Goshen
Melanie Rose Carroll died as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on June 22, 2022, while she was touring the state that she loved. Deeply kind, ferociously curious and intensely loyal, Melanie was an old soul and a calm and reassuring presence to all were lucky enough to know her. She attended Hanover College as a Templeton Scholar and received a B.A. in Philosophy with minors in both Art History and Theology – subjects that she was able to explore in-depth during the 2 ½ years that she spent in Taiwan on a Fulbright Fellowship. She returned home to Louisville in February and spent the last few months getting to know her niece, Charlotte, nephew, Henry, and enjoying time with family and friends – moments that we are so blessed to have been able to have. Melanie was a unique individual – a person who was completely and utterly comfortable in her own skin. Those of us who loved her will miss her every second of every day. We are all better people for having known her.
Melanie was born in Louisville and raised in Goshen, Ky. She is survived by her parents, Chuck and Robin Carroll; sister, Shelby Carroll Murphy (Nick); brother, Andrew Carroll (Amanda Manning); grandparents, Robert D. Gray and Tom and Collette Walls; niece, Charlotte Murphy; nephew, Henry Murphy; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandmothers; Thelma Carroll and Karen R. Gray; grandfather, Chester Carroll Sr; and uncles, Michael R. Gray, Shawn McMaster and Larry Stich.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 28, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. at Pearson's 149 Breckenridge Lane, with a memorial service on Wednesday, June 29 at 10 a.m., also at Pearson's.
There will be an interment ceremony following the memorial service at Cave Hill Cemetery.

I heard this tragic news last night at Creasey Mahan's Haunted Hike-- an event and park she volunteered at for years.
I met Melanie in the 5th grade-- She was arguably the most influential person in my life; I would not be on my life's trajectory without her. She was always surrounded by friends because she made sure every loner, new kid, shy kid, nerdy kid, and struggling kid had a friend in her. So many people's lives were made better by knowing her. She was a Volunteer, an Advocate, a Leader, and a Caretaker. She was gentle kind to every living thing. I am so sad for her loss, as I know everybody who's known her is. I miss her friendship.
