I heard this tragic news last night at Creasey Mahan's Haunted Hike-- an event and park she volunteered at for years.
I met Melanie in the 5th grade-- She was arguably the most influential person in my life; I would not be on my life's trajectory without her. She was always surrounded by friends because she made sure every loner, new kid, shy kid, nerdy kid, and struggling kid had a friend in her. So many people's lives were made better by knowing her. She was a Volunteer, an Advocate, a Leader, and a Caretaker. She was gentle kind to every living thing. I am so sad for her loss, as I know everybody who's known her is. I miss her friendship.
