Melinda Denise Lawton, age 68, passed away peacefully Monday, December 22, 2025 at Addie's Acres in DeWitt, Michigan. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Redeemer United Methodist Church, 13980 Schavey Rd.,
DeWitt, MI 48820. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of service.
Born November 5, 1957, in the quaint town of
Alma, Michigan, Mindy was the cherished daughter of Max Duwayne and Shirley Ann (Buchele) Hall. Later their family moved to Lansing where she attended Harry Hill High School, graduating in 1975.
Mindy's life was marked by the love she both gave and received. In 1995, she met her heart's match, John Lawton, and they celebrated a wedding on April 18, 2009, at Vantown Community Church in Webberville. Their union was a testament to true partnership. She and John made many memories traveling, spending time with their dogs and cats, and watching football together. Mindy embraced each moment with enthusiasm. Palm trees held a special place in Mindy's heart, symbolizing tranquility, she surrounded herself with them, which brought her comfort and a sense of escape.
Mindy dedicated many years of service to the State of Michigan before her well-deserved retirement.
Mindy's grandchildren made every day brighter with their smiles and laughter. She found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, like the peaceful beauty of the beach, a great television show or movie, or a good conversation. It was rare to go anywhere with her and not cross paths with an old friend or acquaintances.
Mindy's faith was a cornerstone of her existence, and she found a spiritual home at People's Church in East Lansing upon her marriage to John. Later, she began worshiping at Redeemer United Methodist Church in DeWitt, where she gained another beloved faith family.
Mindy is survived by a loving family that includes her mother, Shirley Hall; daughter, Kelly (Kyle) Forrest; grandsons, Maxwell and Zachary Forrest; siblings, Curtis (Donna) Hall and Teresa (Jeff) Crawford; and a host of extended family members and many friends who will forever cherish her memory. Mindy's father, Max, her beloved husband, John, and her cherished angel grandson, Colin Forrest, preceded her in death, and she now joins them in eternal peace.
Mindy was a courageous person in life, even when health concerns began to spring up, she chose joy in all circumstances. Her grace and conviction touched all who knew her. Her legacy is one of love, kindness, and the quiet strength that shines through in those she leaves behind. Although her journey on earth has come to an end; she still shines brightly in the eyes of those she loved, the laughter of her grandchildren, and the strength and grace of those who gather in faith.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff and residents of Addie's Acres in DeWitt who became like family to her. Your kindness and care uplifted Mindy and her family.
Memorials in her name are suggested to Redeemer United Methodist Church.
