Melissa "The sheriff" Achane

Melissa "the sheriff" Achane was born February 16, 1940, in Thornwell, Louisiana to the late Willie Achane Sr. and Libby Celestine Achane. Born and raised in Thornwell, she resided in Welsh, Louisiana most of her life where she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Melissa was a very God loving, strong woman, very kind to others, and would do anything for her family. She departed this life Sunday, April 14, 2024, in Lake Charles. She leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters, Veronica Pearl Achane Snowton, Roxie Ann Achane (Kirk) Prudhomme, and Arnoldine Marie (Johnny Wayne) Shaw; sisters, Mildred Achane, Elvina (Martin) Dugas, Rosa Sonnier, and Mary (Will) Handy; fifteen grandchildren; son-in-law, Nathaniel Lyons; and a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special thanks to Nadyia for all of her time and sacrifice she spent helping her grandmother. Love you. Mrs. Achane was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Libby Achane Sr.; daughters, Patricia Jean Lyons and Leslie Marie Manuel; sisters, Pearl Brown and Girlie Achane; brothers, Clifton, Clifford, and David Achane, and Willie Achane Jr.; and two sons-in-law, Bobby Lee Snowton and Chris Manuel. Her visitation will be Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 8AM to 10:30AM, at New Jerusalem Baptist Church located at 710 W. Welsh Street in Welsh, with her funeral following at 11AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church located at 310 N. Sarah Street in Welsh. Father Jom will officiate. Burial will be in Eastridge Cemetery in Welsh, under the direction of James Funeral Home.
