Melody Chapman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Midlothian Funeral Home on Mar. 5, 2026.
Melody Ann Chapman (née Kekich), 66, of Midlothian, Texas, was lovingly called home on February 28, 2026. Born January 31, 1960, in Sheridan, Wyoming, Melody lived a life that radiated faith, love, and passion, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Melody was a true embodiment of the Western spirit. Her passion for rodeo was second to none; she competed fiercely in team roping and breakaway roping. As a renowned "header", her grit, determination, and love for the sport garnered her immense respect within the rodeo community. Even in her retirement years, her love for horses and the cowgirl lifestyle never waned. Instead, she redirected her passion toward cheering on her beloved grandchildren in their various endeavors, mirroring the same enthusiasm she once displayed in the rodeo arena.

A steadfast woman of faith, Melody's love for Jesus Christ and the Church was her guiding light. She was a devoted member of both the Cowboy Junction Church in Hobbs, New Mexico, and the Stonegate Church in Midlothian, Texas. Her unwavering belief in God's guidance, along with her joyous and loving nature, served as an inspiration for many. Melody was a living testament of faith, love, and resilience, and her commitment to leading others to Jesus Christ significantly impacted her community.

At the heart of everything Melody did was her family. She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Brittiny and David Trevino; her son, Billy Chapman; three cherished grandchildren-Jesse Trevino, Josie Trevino, and Carli Chapman-who were her pride and joy; two sisters, Tamara (Donnie Fullenwider) Erb and Shelly (Gene) Scott; one brother, Rado (Jackie Newman) Kekich; niece Reann Erb; and grand-nieces Caidance Pope and Shylo Erb. Melody was preceded in death by her parents, Irene (Siegoski) Kekich and RG Kekich, her sister Christina Kekich, and her grandparents.

Melody's legacy is a testament to her unwavering faith, deep love for her family and friends, and enduring passion for the cowboy way of life. Although her presence will be dearly missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now with her Heavenly Father, experiencing the eternal peace and joy she longed for. As we remember her remarkable life, we find solace in the promise of Isaiah 41:13: "For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who says to you, 'Fear not, I am the one who helps you.'"

Melody's life will be celebrated on March 20th, 3:00 p.m at The Midlothian Funeral Home, 200 E Avenue East, Midlothian Texas, 76065.

In lieu of flowers, Melody's life would be best honored with donation's to The Rescue Haven, non-profit organization that was near and dear to Melody's heart.

Let us continue to honor her legacy by living lives filled with faith, love, and a passion for all that brings us joy, just as Melody did.

Sorry to hear of Mel´s passing. She had a strong Christian faith. I believe she´s welcomed home with those who have gone ahead.

She gave her cancer battle a good fight and on her own terms. Cancer just stronger.

May your many memories bring you comfort and peace.
