Melody Kay Davenport Phillips

Melody Kay Davenport Phillips, age 66, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. Mel leaves behind her husband and high school sweetheart, Gary, and her precious son, Jordan. In her joy-filled life, Mel loved BIG and unconditionally! In addition to Gary and Jordan, Mel loved her family, her friends, traveling to new places and the UT Vols. She was in her element cheering for UT football, basketball and baseball. She loved meeting other UT fans, coaches and the players on game days. We will remember her for prioritizing the well-being and happiness of her family and friends without expecting anything in return. Mel was blessed with a large extended family and an even bigger friend group. Many of her friendships began in elementary school, and these remarkable women stayed in close contact with each other, sharing joys and providing support throughout adulthood. Mel was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Ida Mae Davenport; her aunt and uncle, James and Catherine Mynatt; and her cousin, Mildred Daniels (Robert). She is survived by her brothers, Mike Davenport (Jane) and Ray Davenport (Christine); and her cousins, Stella Lawson (Jerry), Jenny Ball (Bill), and Billie Jo Shaffer (Terry). These special cousins were like sisters to Mel. In addition, Mel had many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and close friends whom she loved like family. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Rose Funeral & Cremation - Broadway from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a celebration of life service to follow at 7:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Mike Segers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Young-Williams Animal Center at https://www.young-williams.org/support. Gary and Jordan thank all family and friends who supported them throughout Mel's illness. A special, heartfelt thanks is extended to Michael Davenport (Mel's nephew) for his devoted care and presence during her final days.
