Melquaides “Mickey” Withrow

Melquaides Vargas Withrow, of Round Rock, Texas, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at the young age of 85. Melquaides, also known as Mickey or Chala by her friends and family, was born in Ferris, Texas on December 10, 1940. Mickey, the eldest of 15, grew up in a time of segregation, she saw the world in so many different phases, moving around due to family working on multiple farms, having to enter restaurants and movies entering through a back door, to watching woman’s right unfold, women earning the right to vote, having rights in a marriage and owning her own home. She lived life to the fullest in every decision she made. Married twice, her first husband James Villareal, they had a son named Jimmy who passed away due to an illness as a child. She then met her soon-to-be second husband, Donald Glenn Withrow. They traveled the world on the back of his motorcycle, or at least the United States. She became the bonus mom to Don’s three children of a previous marriage and loved them as if they were her own. They soon had five children of their own. Life was not always easy, but she always made it work, she worked as a waitress most of her life until she went back to night school and got her GED and became a lab technician until she retired.

Mickey was a sports fanatic even as a youth playing sports with her family, from football, softball and as an adult, would play volleyball with the family. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to play sports and stayed active so she could attend as many events as she could. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. The family would gather at her home for holidays as the family meant everything to her. She followed all of the Texas teams, but there wasn’t a sport she wasn’t following, as she enjoyed watching games on television or attending in person. She was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan.

Mickey was a collector of many things, from her sports memorabilia, anything Elvis Presley related, collecting thimbles and spoons from the family trips to endearing gifts her family gave to her from their travels as well.

Mickey was preceded in death by Don Withrow, son Jimmy Villereal, daughter Joyce Hamby, grandchildren Bryan, Christina, Shawn, Jessica, great grandson Dalton, both of her parents, Antonio and Maria Vargas and siblings; Consuelo Garcia, Antonio Vargas Jr, Jose Vargas I, Jose Vargas II, Eloisa Villareal, Rojelio Vargas, Frank Vargas, Gloria Gaitan, Rebecca Vargas, Felipe Vargas, Prudencio Vargas and Rosalinda Perdue .

She is survived by her children Johnny Withrow (spouse Terri, children Nikki and Tony), Barbara Withrow (children Ray Jr, Natasha, Richard, Michael, Johnathan, Amber and Kimberly), Michael Withrow (children Chris and Cody), Bobby Withrow (spouse Kris, children Meghan, Leslie and bonus daughter Tyler), Vikki Edwards (children Felicity, Brianna and Ethan), Michelle Mosher (children James and Jasmine) and Angela Withrow (children John-Michael and Joshua), 33 great grandkids and 8 great great grandkids. She is also survived by brothers; Guadalupe (Wally) and Victor Vargas. She has left behind many family members and friends whose heart now holds an empty space from her passing.

Mickey chose to be cremated with no viewing or funeral service, but a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
