Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory - FranklinMr. Melvin M. Chapman, age 86, of Franklin, KY, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025 at the Medical Center of Bowling Green, KY.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory in Franklin, KY. After visitation, a memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with military honors given by the Simpson County Honor Guard. Mr. Chapman's wishes were to be cremated.
Melvin was born on March 21, 1939 in Milton, WV to the late Cecil Chapman and the late Lillian (Janey) Chapman. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Norma (Karnik) Chapman; son, Billy Chapman and siblings, Daniel, Darrell, Harold, Ray, Shirley, Linda, Betty, Faye, and Ruth.
He is survived by one daughter, Martha Neiswanger (Jack) of Franklin, KY; 2 grandsons, John Neis (Gina) of Elmhurst, IL and Jason Neiswanger of Huntsville, AL; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Vincent; two sisters, Marie Hedrick of Huntington, West Viriginia and Bonnie Breedlove (Jerry) of Huntington, WV; a nephew, Nick Karnik; and many other nieces and nephews.
Melvin was a veteran of the Merchant Marines and the United States Air Force. He was retired from the Yellow Cab Company of Southern Kentucky.
