Melvin H. Cox
August 4, 1933 - April 8, 2025
Born in Gary, WV, on August 4, 1933. In the early morning hours of April 8, 2025, Melvin completed his journey here on Earth and went home to be with his Lord and Savior.
Survivors include his loving wife, Janet Cox of Bluefield, WV; one daughter, Tammy Roark of Wytheville, VA; three step-daughters, Gigi Chisom of Bluefield, WV, Susan Staley of Wytheville, VA, and Dana Kincer of Elizabethton, TN; sisters, Helen Cox of Deland, FL, Lois Lawless of Bluefield, WV, Mary Valach of Princeton, WV, Violet Lawless of Waynesburg, PA; several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his son, Melvin Edward Hendricks of Royal Palm Beach, FL; his parents, Don and Velma A. Cox; sister, Brucella Cox; brothers, Clovis Cox, Lakewood Cox, and Ardie Cox.
Melvin had a successful business in the coal industry along with his brothers, Ardie, Lakewood, and Clovis. He loved his country and served it proudly. He was a coal-hauler for 66 years, finally retiring from coal at the age of 76. His passion was family, he dearly loved his wife and his siblings. Melvin was a kind, generous man, and will be greatly missed. A true diamond in all of its splendor, best described Melvin. He was a member of Cumberland Road Church of God and in his later years, enjoyed praying and reading God's word. And he finished well!
Funeral services will be held, Friday, April 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel, in Bluewell, WV, with Rev. James Coe and Rev. David Kirby officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park with Eric Gray, Rodney Cox, Barry Dalton, Cy Gadd, Cody Gadd, and Jimmy Stanley serving as pallbearers. VFW Post #9640, Richlands, VA, will be preforming military graveside rites.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to services, from 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home.
