Brian P. Harvey Funeral Home - PlattsmouthMelvin Dean Flint, 93 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Melvin was born on October 8, 1932 in Oconto, Custer County Nebraska to parents Walter Horace and Minnie Jane (Garringer) Flint.
Melvin grew up on a farm south of Plattsmouth. He attended several one room country schools throughout his education. He loved playing baseball at school and said if there was a baseball team in High School he would have continued his education. He worked very hard all his life. He drove truck in Omaha and farming in the evenings and weekends. At work he was so strong that he would load his truck with concrete blocks by hand. He carried 2 blocks in each hand at 40 pounds each. He was the strongest man we knew of.
Melvin was united in marriage to Ethlyn Williams on February 8, 1952 and together they raised three children. Namely, Terry, Gene, and Cindy. After the children were grown, he married Nanette Kay Campbell August 14, 1987 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After their marriage they moved off the farm to Council Bluffs.
He is survived by his children, Terry (Dione) Flint of Rigby, ID, Gene (Theresa) Flint of Union, NE, Cindy (Patrick) Herrick of Malvern, IA and step daughter Tracy Coan of Council Bluffs, IA. Melvin’s legacy continues through his 20 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Duane Flint of Omaha, Nebr. and Darrell Flint of Ozark, Mo.
Preceding his death were his parents Walter and Minnie, his 1st wife Ethlyn and his 2nd wife Nanette, his sister Maxine, and his brother Kenneth.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd from 4:00 PM until 5:45 PM with greeting family and friends at the Harvey Funeral Home located at 1408 8th Ave. Plattsmouth.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday December 3rd from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Harvey Funeral Home located at 1408 8th Ave. Plattsmouth
Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation
