Melvin Gerstenkorn

Melvin Lee Gerstenkorn, 76, Topeka, Kansas, passed away on November 23, 2025.

Melvin was born in Great Bend, Kansas to Julius and Cecilia Boor Gerstenkorn. He graduated from Hayden High School in Topeka in 1967. Melvin attended Washburn University and Penn Valley Community College, and he received a Certificate of Accomplishment in Horticulture from Wichita State University Tech. Melvin pursued diverse jobs in landscaping, construction, and warehouse work, and for many years he worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. He was married to Connie Farrell from 1978 to 1984, and they had two children.

Melvin enjoyed reading, learning, and challenging his mind; he worked diligently towards things he had a passion for. He enjoyed collecting coins, appreciated good food, and loved the arts. He was extremely unique and creative; a memorable person to those he crossed paths with. Melvin enjoyed living a practical and private life, but he also enjoyed sharing his deep thoughts with others. He always had something on his mind, and he welcomed meaningful conversations with open-minded individuals. Melvin is very loved and will be missed.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Julius and Cecilia, and brother Richard Gerstenkorn. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Gerstenkorn (Brian O'Neill) of Gardner, Kansas; son, Daniel Gerstenkorn (Mary Beth Medford) of Shawnee, Kansas; siblings, Kenneth Gerstenkorn (Vickie) of Haslet, Texas, Bernice Glissman (Dick) of Centralia, Kansas, and Raymond Gerstenkorn (Karen) of Topeka; and two grandchildren, Annabelle and Oliver.

Private cremation has been arranged, and a memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.

Memorial contributions for Melvin may be made to Lisa Gerstenkorn, sent in care of the funeral home, and will be designated at a later date.
