Melvin John Harter, age 14, of Mt. Olive, Mississippi, passed away on October 31, 2025. He was born on February 14, 2011, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Angeleena Caton and Vincent Harter, and was lovingly raised by David and Angeleena Robinson.
From the time Melvin was just a year and a half old, David became the missing piece of his life-loving, guiding, and raising him as his own son. Their bond was unbreakable, and the strength of their family was a reflection of that love.
Melvin was a bright, kind, and talented young man whose joy for life touched everyone who knew him. He loved music, video games, drawing, animals, and spending time with his family. A proud member of the Mize football team, Melvin's enthusiasm and teamwork shone both on and off the field. He was recently crowned champion of the school's Lip Sync Battle-a reflection of his fun-loving spirit and confidence.
Melvin also had a passion for learning and hard work. He raised a pig named Kate through 4-H and earned several awards for his achievements in math. His creativity, humor, and compassion made him a beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend.
He is survived by his parents, David and Angeleena Robinson; his birth father, Vincent Harter; his sisters, Kaylynne Robinson and Jeannette Harter; and his brothers, Glen Harter and Franklin Robinson. He is also cherished by his grandparents, Joe and Melissa Caton, Hugh and Polly Robinson, and Joyce and Glenn Ainsworth; and paternal grandparents Robert and Shirley Worth. His great-grandparents, Melvin and Judy Bell; many loving aunts and uncles; numerous cousins; and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.
Melvin was preceded in death by his aunt, Cheyanne Caton, who surely welcomed him with open arms.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Tutor Funeral Home. A private interment will follow.
Melvin's light, laughter, and love will remain forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
