Melvin J. Inman, 91, of Ottawa, IL passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023 at his daughter's home in Ottawa, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 12, 1931 in Trenton, TN, the son of Willie and Elsie (Harris) Inman. He married Jean Evans on June 11, 1957 in Hernando, MS. Melvin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Ottawa, IL. He was a Korean War Veteran having served in the US Navy. Mel was a police officer in Sandwich for several years, then he was Chief of Police in Leland for many years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and playing cards with his family. Mel loved going out for breakfast and eating biscuits and gravy. Most of all his family was his pride and joy, he loved spending time with them. He is survived by his children, Patty (Brad) Entwistle of Ottawa, IL. Carol (Rodger) Stegmann of Earlville, IL, Marilyn (Kelly) McBride of Simi Valley, CA, Ron (Lisa) Inman of Mendota, IL, and Randy (Melody) Inman of Spring Valley, IL; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; his second wife, Katie; two brothers, Raymond and Earl Inman.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk with Bishop Doug DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at the funeral home in Somonauk.
