Melvin Johnson, Jr., 64, of Roswell, Georgia, transitioned on Friday, December 19, 2025. His Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Church, 725 Pleasant Hill Street, Roswell, GA 30075. Services are entrusted to Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home, Gwinnett Chapel.
Melvin Johnson from the famed MajesticRollers was more than a skater-he was a living chapter in the history of roller skating. Though there may be no recordings or photographs to fully capture his brilliance, his legacy is firmly etched in the hearts and memories of those who shared the floor with him. In skating, relevance isn´t always documented-it´s testified to by peers, road dogs, and partners who witnessed greatness in real time.
For over forty years, his longtime skate partners Algie Parham and Kurby Brown, along with many others, will attest that Melvin was a master craftsman of freestyle on wood floors and a true authority of Jersey Twin City-style dance steps. His presence on the floor commanded respect, not through arrogance, but through excellence.
What truly set Melvin apart-his superpower-was humility. He was a dedicated student of the craft, always willing to learn from others, even those considered greater talents. That hunger to grow, paired with unmatched consistency, made him a constant force wherever he skated. Alongside Algie and Kurby, Melvin traveled across many states, especially New York, from the 1970s through 2005, refining his skills, expanding his style, and cementing his uniqueness.
Melvin´s journey culminated in a legacy of mastery, brotherhood, and influence that continues to inspire generations of skaters. In the Metaverse, we imagine a Hall of Fame that honors true contributors to the game-complete with a statue to commemorate our hero. Whether imagined or real, such an honor feels fitting for a man whose impact transcends time and documentation.
Welcome to the Kingdom of Legends, Melvin Johnson. Your roll was true, your style unmatched, and your spirit everlasting. Kudos to you, our brother-you will never be forgotten. The skate community extends their heartfelt condolences to the Johnson family!
