Melvin Kalwitz, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025. He was born on May 13, 1935 in News London, Wisconsin son of the late Louis and Regina (Hoerning) Kalwitz.
On September 10, 1955 Melvin married Virginia Baurain at Bethany Lutheran Church in Appleton and together they raised four children. Melvin was a long time member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hortonville. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time at the family lake house on Lake Poygan and fishing.
Melvin is survived by his children: Deb (Arnie) Abel, Terrie (Scott) Ohlfs, Larry (Connie) Kalwitz, and Steve Kalwitz; grandchildren: Jen (John) Weber, Matt (Amanda) Abel, Courtney Ohlfs, Nick (Courtney) Kalwitz, MacKenzie (Adam) Strobel, Taylor (Cam Severin) Kalwitz, Blake (Miranda) Kalwitz, and Halle (Joel) Bartels; great grandchildren: Ellie Weber, Natalie Weber, Hunter (Presley) Abel, Jaelyn Abel, Braelee Abel, Jaxson Demeuse, Saylor Kalwitz, Aida Strobel, and two on the way. He is further survived by his brother and sister-in-law: Gerald and Mern Kalwitz.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Ginny; two brothers and their spouses.
A Funeral Service for Melvin will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will continue until the time of the service. He will be laid to rest with Ginny in Appleton's Highland Memorial Park.
Melvin's family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of ThedaCare Hospice for the great care and compassion they provided.

I was employed with Appletons Public Works at the time Mel was the Sanitation foreman.
He was a good man, easy to talk to and work for.
I´m sure he´ll be missed by family and friends.
