Melvin J. Kugel
May 22, 1935 - August 10, 2025
Melvin J. Kugel, age 90, of Eagle, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 10, 2025 at his home with his loving family by his side.
Mel was born on May 22, 1935, in Racine, Wisconsin, the son of Paul and Anna (Peterson) Kugel. He grew up in the Racine area and after his schooling, served his country in the United States Army. Mel was united in marriage to Caroline Anderson on June 22, 1957, in Racine, and the couple went on to enjoy 68 years of marriage together and God blessed their union with four children, Debra, Cheryl, Richard and Scott. Mel worked as a salesman in the electrical industry for the majority of his career and took pride in providing well for his family. He will be remembered for his generosity towards others with his time, money, and talents. Mel had many interests during his life. He loved to tinker and work around his house and on vehicles. He enjoyed being outside in God's creation, traveling, camping, hunting and fishing. He was also content to be inside playing cards, or watching a good Western. Above all else in Mel's life was his faith followed by his family. Mel feared the Lord and was a long-time member of the Eagle United Methodist Church. He lived his faith in how he treated others, especially his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and his best times were spent with those closest to him. Mel had a big family and he loved each of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren individually and he took an interest to be close to each one. His weekly (and sometimes daily) calls to check in will be greatly missed. Mel will be deeply missed, but his family takes comfort in the fact that he is Heaven with his Lord.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 68 years, Carol Kugel; three of his children, Cheryl Kugel-Lang, Richard (Lori) Kugel, and Scott Kugel; his grandchildren, Jason (Kristie) Couch, Steven Szymkowski, Samantha (Nathan) Elderbrook, Matthew (Jamie) Lang, Kayla (Nicholas) Footit, Dylan (Jasmine) Kugel, Tyler Kugel, and Allie Kugel; his dear great-grandchildren, Carter, Olivia, Emily, Walker, Huxley, Baylor, and Coraline; and a sister Barbara Kugel. Mel is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving daughter, Debra; his dear grandson, Andrew Lang; his siblings, James (Jean), Paul (Ruth), and Mary (Frank).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Patty King and Mel's grandson, Steven Szymkowski for the loving care they provided.
Memorials in Mel's honor may be made to the Kugel Family Foundation.
