Melvin J. Minnick was born to John D. Minnick and Amy Levy Minnick on
April 14, 1929 in Abbeville, Louisiana, the fifth of nine children.
From a young age, the importance of faith was instilled in Melvin by his parents.
He was baptized at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville, Louisiana,
where he began his faith walk as an altar boy.
Upon arrival to Houston, Texas, Melvin started working and gaining skills with
the City of Houston Public Works and Construction division. Thereafter, he
worked for George Construction and advanced to partnership. This eventually
led him to forming his own company, Minnick Construction and he worked
tirelessly until his retirement.
He was a devoted and faithful member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church,
registering Nov. 13, 1947, serving 75 years until his health failed. MelvIn was also a
member of several organizations including, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Holy Name Society
and the Knights of Peter Claver of OUR LADY OF LOURDES, Council No. 077
for 50 years, receiving Gold Certification.
Melvin was a good man, great father, strong, fun-loving, supportive and an inspiration
to his famiy, friends and all who knew him. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, social events,
sports and traveling to the Holy Land.
He is preceded in death by his parents John D. and Amy Minnick.
Daughter, Mary Lou Diggs. Sisters; Marjorie Minnick, Myrtle Comeaux
Lorena Faine, Audrey Duffy and Rose Roberts. Brother, Murphy Minnick.
He is survived by his 3 daughters: Debbie Minnick-Albert, Sylvia Minnick
and Joyce Jackson. Grand children: Chrissy Chark, Reginald and Dewayne Jackson.
Marilo Tisa, Marlo, Jerran and Jamal Diggs. Many great and great great grand children
and a host of nieces and nephews.
