Melvin Sherwin Mizelle, 88, of Colerain, NC passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025.
Melvin was born in Windsor, NC on January 21, 1937 and was the son of Melvin Arthur Mizelle and Janet Evans Mizelle, both deceased. A native of Bertie County, NC, Melvin was the husband of Betty Dunlow Mizelle for 68 years. He was a member and a previous Deacon of Riverside Baptist Church.
Melvin was employed by the U. S. Government for 36 years. He also served as a volunteer for Chartway Federal Credit Union for 38 years.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Dunlow Mizelle; daughter, Melinda Barbish (Tony); son, Melvin Ray Mizelle (Bonnie Gilroy); three grandchildren, Michelle, Brittany and Ashton; three great grandchildren, Cambria, Emerson and Lucy; and three step-grandchildren, Stephanie, Jennifer and Rachael.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his brothers, Randolph Mizelle, Robert Mizelle and Merritt Mizelle.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Riverside Baptist Church, Merry Hill, NC with Pastor Bill Payne officiating. The burial will follow at Riverside Baptist Church cemetery. The family will greet friends immediately after the service at Riverside Baptist Church social hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Riverside Baptist Church, 1206 NC-45, Merry Hill, NC 27957.
