BOWLING GREEN -- Melvin T. Moore, age 88, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026. Melvin was born on April 23, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late George and Evelyn (Leow) Moore. He grew up in a close-knit family with one younger sister, Marlene Worth, who preceded him in death.
He was a proud graduate of Gibsonburg High School, Class of 1955, where he excelled on the football field and earned recognition as an all-star athlete. It was during his high school years that he met the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Sandra. Melvin continued his football career at Bowling Green State University, graduating class of 1959, and was later drafted with the Detroit Lions.
Melvin and Sandra were married on February 1, 1958, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned 67 wonderful years. Sandra preceded him in death on April 11, 2025. Together, they raised two beautiful children and built a life centered on family, faith, and the simple joys of togetherness. They especially cherished their annual trips to Amish country, a tradition that reflected their appreciation for a quieter, meaningful way of life.
Melvin earned his master's degree from the University of Toledo in metallurgy and built an accomplished career in the casting industry. He served as Vice President at Rimer Enterprises in Waterville, Ohio, and later at Cast Masters, a division of Timken Steel in Bowling Green, Ohio. His casting work gained notable recognition, including features on the PBS network and exhibitions at the Toledo Museum of Art. Even after retirement, Melvin continued sharing his expertise as a consultant for MCM Precision Casting in Weston, Ohio, working until the age of 80.
A man of dedication and humility, Melvin was a quiet leader both on and off the field. He was deeply devoted to his family and lived his life with integrity, grace, and faith. He was a former member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pemberville, Ohio, where he served as an adult Sunday School teacher, and later a member of Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg, Ohio.
Melvin will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and unwavering love for his family.
Melvin is survived by his loving children Karen (James) Micenec of Grand Rapids, Ohio, Thomas Moore of Carroll, Ohio, 7 beautiful grandchildren and 11 cherished great-grandchildren.
