Melvin Reckamp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Newcomer Funeral Home - Monroe on Feb. 10, 2026.
Melvin C. Reckamp, born March 22, 1947, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on Monday, February 9, 2026. He was the beloved son of Claude and Margaret Reckamp.

Melvin earned his bachelor's degree from Divine Word College in Epworth, Iowa and dedicated more than 30 years of service as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the State of Illinois in Rockford, IL. Following his retirement, he continued his lifelong commitment to helping others by working part-time as a social worker at Woods Crossing in Brodhead, Wisconsin, where he served for approximately 10 years. He also served on the Juda Fire Board for many years.

In 1991, Melvin married the love of his life, Patricia "Pat" Reckamp. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service. A lifelong member of the Catholic Church, Melvin's faith was a guiding force throughout his life.

Melvin devoted his time to his family and found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved caring for his sheep, playing euchre at the Moose Lodge with friends, and spending time playing cards with his siblings.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his sons, Jacob (Breanna) Reckamp and Matthew Reckamp; and his brother, Thomas (Linda) Reckamp.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Margaret Reckamp, and his siblings: Herbert (Geraldine) Reckamp, Kenneth (Ottoline) Reckamp, Florence (John) Horcher, Elaine (John) Kamis, Alice Reckamp, Ruthie (Ken) Conter, Robert (Paula) Reckamp, Margaret (Edward) Nowak, Norma (George) Laken, Allan (Jean) Reckamp, and Wayne (Monica) Reckamp.

Melvin will be remembered for his quiet dedication, kind heart, strong faith, and unwavering love for his family.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Christ The King Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Father Chahm Gahng officiating. A luncheon will follow the mass at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 16, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, and preceding the mass on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will be in Oakley Union Church Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UW-Madison Carbone Cancer Center in appreciation for the wonderful care they provided him.
