Melvin F. Retcher

Melvin F. Retcher, 78, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2023 following a brain hemorrhage five years ago. He was born on October 27, 1944, the son of the late Elmer and Lorena (Hahn) Retcher. Mel is survived by Lynn Ericson Smith, Erica Smith Roach (Jeffrey), D. Blair Smith (Lisa); brothers, Jerold (Donna) and Michael (Susan); and a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his brothers, Robert and George; as well as sisters, Linda, Judith, Sharon and Karen.

Melvin attended Ayersville High School and graduated from the University of Toledo. He began his Accounting career with a Big 8 firm followed by Ohio Art (Etch A Sketch), Art Iron, and a number of private clients. These relationships were very valuable to him. He served as Sergeant Melvin F. Retcher in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was Honorably Discharged in 1971.

Mel's faith was very important to him and he loved the relationships in his church family. He was well known for his friendly demeanor and found great joy in helping others. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones, a good game of Scrabble and attending a Cleveland Indians game.

Mel appreciated his Caregiving friends at Maumee Pointe, Kingston of Perrysburg, Otterbein Rehab of Perrysburg and Careline Hospice.

Arrangements are by Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo OH 43614. Family and friends may visit Tuesday, May 23 from 4-8 p.m., with the funeral beginning at 7 p.m. The burial with Military Honors will be held May 24 at Noon at Riverside Cemetery, 1417 S.
