With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Melvin Chester Ruth. Born November 22, 1968, in Baltimore, MD, Melvin was a devoted husband to Diane, a loving father to Melinda and Ashley and her children, and a cherished brother to William (Kristy) Ruth, Michael (Dawn) Ruth, Richard (Dawn) Ruth. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Richard Raymond Ruth, Sr. and Lillian Elizabeth Thiess Ruth, as well as his mother-in-law Ann Chaney. He is also preceded by his close friend/family Dennis Krouse and Timothy Ulrich.
Melvin passed away on Thursday, February 5th, 2026, at home in Milam, WV, after a long battle with cancer. Melvin lived a full life as a hunter, drummer, a Martial Arts instructor and a U.S. Army Veteran. He also met many friends through his work as a heavy equipment operator and contractor. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and with his dogs and grand dogs. Melvin is remembered for his honesty, loyalty, compassion, and most of all, his devotion to his family.
Join us in honoring Melvin’s extraordinary life during a funeral service planned for 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street. Friends and family are invited to come together for a public viewing beginning at 12:00 PM, leading up to the service.
