Melvin Gene Schrum

Melvin Gene Schrum, 76, of Fort Morgan, Colorado passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, after a short battle with cancer.

Melvin was a proud son, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was defined by hard work, generosity, and love for his family. He spent many years as a skilled mechanic before moving on to a career in truck driving, a job that perfectly matched his strong work ethic and independent spirit.

In his younger years, Melvin enjoyed racing race cars and carried that passion for engines and speed through his life. He also loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, a pastime that brought him peace and joy and reflected his appreciation for nature. Known for his warm heart and giving nature, he would truly give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His kindness, stories, and steady presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Melvin will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mevin and Dorothy Schrum, brothers Rex Rucker, Mike Schrum, Laurence Schrum, and Lon Dahl, sisters Margaret, Judy, and niece Terri. He is survived by brothers Harold Godert, Ronnie Schrum, sisters Charlotte Yearous, Alvina Schrum, and Linda Dahl. Daughter Kathy Schrum and son Joseph Schrum. Step Children/niece and nephew Ronald Schrum and Melissa Schrum. Grandchildren Melinda Kauffman (Charlie), Matthew Schrum, Kelsi Hall (Tyler), Tyler Hallahan, Zach Schrum. Great Grandchildren Clara, Paisley, Evie, and Spencer. And many other nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at The Block in Fort Morgan on January 4th, 2026 from 12-4.
