Melvin Wakefield (July 15, 1939 - November 24, 2025) of Grayson, Georgia, passed away in the presence of family after a long illness. Melvin, also known as "Pop" by his children and grandchildren, was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, where he attended Treadwell High School and Christian Brothers University. He had a long and successful career as an electrical engineer and project manager. Melvin is survived by two daughters, Kecia Klob and Kimber Wakefield, three grandchildren, Andrew, Conner, and Kayleigh, niece Alisa Moore, and one great grandson, William.
Melvin married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann, and they were married for 46 years prior to her passing in 2009. He had a wide range of interests which included hunting, fishing, martial arts, Bible study, and ballroom dancing.
Mary Ann was both Melvin's marriage partner and lifelong dance partner, and their mutual enjoyment of ballroom dancing was a source of joy that Melvin carried forward for the remainder of his life. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of ballroom dancing with others, including teaching some dance steps to his caregivers and hospice providers.
Melvin was a man of faith who participated in his church communities throughout his life. Melvin and his older brother, Jerry, were inseparable. Even when separated by distance, they maintained constant contact and friendship, and were quick to share stories from their earlier days growing up in Memphis. Jerry passed away only three weeks prior to Melvin, and there is no doubt that they are both now reunited.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Anchor Church - 451 Ozora Road Loganvlle, GA 30052
Melvin's time on earth was a life well lived. While family and friends mourn his loss, his impact and legacy will live on.
