Merced was born in the town of Presidios, Durango. As a child, she grew up in Presidios until she settled in her home in Matamoros El Oro. In 2000, she was fortunate enough to travel to visit Chicago, Illinois, and live out the rest of her final years in Las Vegas, Nevada with her children. She was a dedicated and loving mother, aunt, godmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. A homemaker who took care of everyone.
She will always be remembered as the strongest woman we have ever known, both physically and at heart. She was well known as the family baker and will always be remembered for her delicious empanadas, coricos, and tortillas. She was always willing to teach anyone who wanted to learn how to bake and never missed an opportunity to sit down, have a coffee and share vivid stories from her past with those who visited her.
Mama Merced always had a way with plants and flowers. She loved rosebushes and carnations of all colors. There was never a time when she failed to notice the beauty and the details of the flowers around her or those that crossed her path.
Her faith in God, her strength, her keen memory of family history, and her passion for family unity are lessons we will always treasure in our hearts.
