Mercedes Figueroa Samson

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mercedes Figueroa Samson, a beloved member of the community, who passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025. Born on July 24, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY, Mercedes lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love.
Mercedes graduated from Commercial High School, NYC. Her commitment to serving others led her to a distinguished career as a police officer with the NYPD. in 1973, her class was the first of "equal pay for equal duty" for the female police officers. Mercedes worked as an Undercover Narcotics Officer in South Brooklyn before earning her Gold Shield as a NYPD Detective 3rd Grade. She served with the 66th Precinct, the Chief of Detective Office, and the Missing Persons Unit before retiring in 1987. Mercedes later worked as a security officer with Pleasant Valley School District in Brodheadsville, PA.
She is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Samson, whom they celebrated 42 years of marriage together, her children, Eric Samson and Michael Samson, and her cherished grandchildren, Allen Samson, Mikey Samson, and Amelia Samson. She is predeceased by her father Pablo Figueroa, her mother Hermelinda (Gonzales) Figueroa, her brother Pablo Figueroa, and her sister Blanca Figueroa. Mercedes is also remembered by her brothers, Abe Figueroa, Nelson Figueroa and his wife Marta, her godson Paul Valentin, numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends and colleagues who will miss her dearly. Her kindness, generous spirit, and above all, her radiant smile will be missed by all who knew her.
Mercedes was a woman of faith who was a member of Prospect Presbyterian Church in New Jersey for years until moving to Pennsylvania when she became an active member of Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church in Brodheadsville, PA. Her legacy of service and kindness will forever remain in our hearts.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville, PA 18322. A Celebration of Life will follow the next day on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church, 915 N. 5th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
