Merle and I were stationed at the Marine Barracks in Subic Bay Philippines and then again at Camp Lejune NC. He was my brother. Sarah and he came out to Hawaii for a visit shortly before he passed on it was the high point for my wife and I as we had not seen him since 1973. What a good man. Loved his country music and yes his beer. Never a better Marine and friend. I think of him often. Rest in peace my friend not a Merle Haggard song is played without me telling a sea story about you. We met Merle when he got home from Vietnam along with some other fine marines. A lot of good memories were made in the carefree young days of our youth. Our condolences to Merle's wife Sarah and his family. May God be with you during this time of sorrow.

I considered Merle a good friend when we were in grade school at Bright elementary. One of my fondest memories and a true loss.
