Merlin Robert Prosper

St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 13, 2026, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church honoring the life of Merlin R. Prosper, 83, who passed away on March 9, 2026, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.

A visitation will take place at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville on Friday from 7:30 AM to 1:45 PM.

A Rosary will be prayed at 11:30 AM on Friday.

Rev. Jason Vidrine will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Hali Hebert Vaughn and Dwan Savoie.

Burial will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum.

Merlin Robert Prosper passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his hardworking nature, kind heart, and the deep love he had for those closest to him. Merlin found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for woodworking, creating things with his hands and taking pride in every piece he made. He also loved spending time outdoors fishing, gardening, and camping, enjoying nature and the peace it brought him.

One of Merlin's greatest joys was traveling with his beloved wife, making memories together and sharing life's adventures side by side. He also enjoyed the excitement of visiting the casino, always appreciating a good time and the fun that came with it. Above all else, Merlin loved his family. Spending time with them meant the world to him, and he treasured every moment shared with those he loved most. His warmth, wisdom, and presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Necia Granger Prosper; sons, Wayne Maturin (Sherry) and Merv Prosper; daughter, Stacey Prosper Savoie (Karl); and his sisters, Marie Prosper Gonzales, Debbie Prosper Hingle, and Sibil Prosper Pecar.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Verna Keiff Prosper; daughters, Lisa Maturin and Treshia Michell; brothers, Larry Prosper and Wilfred "Buddy" Prosper, Jr.; and his sister, Louise Hingle.

Pallbearers will be Kal Savoie, Ramey Savoie, Blaine Maturin, Blake Theriot, Laine Barras, and Ashton Barras.
