Merwyn Raynor Joyner, 70 of Waxhaw, NC passed away on Friday February 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Union County, NC on March 3, 1955, son to the late John Elliott Joyner and Marjorie Yarborough Joyner. He is also preceded in death by his three brothers, David, Barry, and Carson Joyner.
A memorial service to celebrate Merwyn's life will be at 1:00PM on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Hermon Baptist Church 9713 Lancaster Hwy, Waxhaw, NC 28173 in the church Family Life Center. The family will receive friends following the service.
Merwyn is survived by his loving wife of over 48 years, Susan Sims Joyner, and their three daughters, Mandy Joyner, Aly Joyner, and Kelsey Joyner, as well as one special granddaughter, Marlee Joyner, two sisters, Melba Joyner, and Robyn Gordon, husband Doug, two sisters-in-law, Debbie Joyner and Judy Joyner.
A life centered on faith, family, and service has come to a peaceful rest. A skilled carpenter by trade, Merwyn understood that true craftsmanship isn't just about building with wood, it's about building relationships with people. For the past 11 years he drove for Union County Transportation, to him this was not just a job, it was his ministry and he cherished the many friendships he built along the way. Merwyn faithfully served most of his life in his home church, Hermon Baptist, as a teacher, deacon, friend and brother to all.
He found joy in the simple, beautiful rhythms of life. He had a fondness for bluegrass and gospel music, the North Carolina mountains, birds, nature, and growing garden veggies.
Above all Merwyn was a devoted family man. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. A deep-rooted love that was evident in every story he told and every sacrifice he made. He will be remembered most for his steady support, quiet strength, and the love he showed everyday. While our hearts are heavy with his loss we find comfort in the legacy of love and service he leaves behind. Merwyn brought unparalleled dedication, integrity, and warmth to all he did. To know Merywn was to know kindness in motion, a man with gentle compassion, and a deep faith that guided his everyday. He will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be made to Hermon Baptist Church or PBS North Carolina.
