Michael Louis Adams, 79 of Killeen, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024, at home. Services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen with a visitation starting at 3 pm and funeral immediately following at 4 pm. Burial at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen will be held at 10 am Friday, August 9, 2024.
Michael was born on September 11, 1944, to Irving and Irma Bakersmith-Adams in Washington D.C. After graduating from Mascoutah High School in 1962, he went on to study psychology at Southern Illinois University. He earned his bachelors, masters, and PhD. He was in the US Air Force from 1967 to 1971 serving in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Michael transferred to the US Army in 1973. He worked in the Medical Services Corp and, after serving both active and reserve duty, retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2008.
Michael also had a career in public education – working as a psychologist for Copperas Cove School District in the special education department for 7 years.
In 1966, Michael married Nancy Louise Adams from Grayville, IL. They went on to have 3 children: Robert, Elizabeth, and Emily. Michael spent his free time enjoying shooting, hunting, working with his tractors, and hanging out with his friends and going on cruises with his wife.
Michael was preceded in death by his father and mother.
He is survived by his wife Nancy; brother John Adams; sister Pati Segar; children Robert Adams, Elizabeth Smith, and Emily Phillips; grandchildren Christopher Smith, William Smith, Aleia Young, Alexander Smith, Emma Adams, Nicholas Smith, Ann Phillips; and great grandchild Emileia Price.
