In August of 2011, Mike, Don Kirkwood and I spent a week riding the full length of the Blue Ridge Parkway, from Cherokee, North Caroline to Afton, Virginia. The time we spent together was surely one of the highlights of some 50 years of cycling. Memories of riding with him, his easy laugh, wry humor, patience and persistence will always be with me. His grace as he moved through this last tough year is simply an inspiration.
With my deepest condolences and fondest memories on the passing of an extraordinary human being.
