Michael Balogh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis-Becker Funeral Home - Struthers (AKA Davidson-Becker) on Jan. 24, 2026.
Youngstown - Michael Allen Balogh, 56, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2026 surrounded by his loving family & friends.

Mike, as he was affectionately known as, was born on January 28, 1969 to the late Louis Richard Balogh and Deborah Jean (Frohman) Balogh. He loved reminding everyone that he was born the same year man first walked on the moon-a fact he shared with pride and a smile.

A graduate of Lowellville High School, Mike went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy. After his military service, he worked in a variety of fields, including as a chef, caterer, and a specialized blacktop construction worker, bringing dedication and hard work to everything he did.

Later in life, Mike married the love of his life, Cheri Lynn Cowan, on June 16, 2013. Though lifelong friends, they always found their way back to one another, building a loving marriage and a beautiful blended family together.

Mike was deeply proud of his Hungarian heritage and attended Hungarian Presbyterian Church with his aunt. He was a faithful and die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan who loved watching football surrounded by family and friends, proudly waving his Terrible Towel and wearing his custom-made "Balogh" jersey. He also enjoyed playing golf, listening to music by REO Speedwagon and the Bee Gees, and watching his favorite movie series, Alien. He was an avid animal lover, especially his dog, Spooky, whom he missed dearly.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his uncle, Richard B. Ramhoff; his aunt, Judy J. Ramhoff; and his sister, Cheryl Mangine.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 13 years, Cheri Lynn Balogh; his dedicated children, Preston Balogh, Robert Smith, and Mikayla (Brandon) Maxwell; his cherished grandchildren, Aiden Smith, Kenny Balogh, Giovani Smith, Elizabeth Balogh, Georgio Smith, Emily Balogh, and Gino Smith; his sister, Tammy (Tom) Kopnicky; and many additional family members including friends whom he loved to.

In keeping with Mike's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private family gathering will be held to remember and celebrate his life with those he held dear.

Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His witty humor stayed with him until the very end and will live on through his family.
