Michael (Mike) R. Banasik passed away on August 7, 2023 in his home.
Mike was born in McAlester, OK on November 24, 1958 to Stan and Nancy Banasik. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Springfield, MO where they all consider to be home. He graduated from Parkview High School and attended SMSU for his undergraduate degree in accounting.
Mike was an IT consultant for many businesses and organizations including NASA, Oracle, and The Hershey Company. He was a Rotary Club member and spent many years mentoring students through the Junior Achievement program.
Mike was a food aficionado and a coffee connoisseur. He had great enthusiasm and depth of knowledge of food and loved sweets. Mike also loved to play guitar and read Nero Wolfe mysteries.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coach Stan and Nancy Banasik, his brothers-in-law, Barry Oelschlaeger and Richard Norment, and his uncle Dan Dennehy as well as other aunts and uncles.
Mike is survived by his wife of 38 years, Julie Banasik, and his beloved daughter, Taylor Banasik; sister Chris Oelschlaeger; brothers and sisters-in-law Kirk and Nancy Banasik and Dan and Susie Banasik; sister-in-law Jill Norment; nieces and nephews Matthew Oelschlaeger, AnnMarie and her husband Alistair DeNova, Allie Banasik, Sean Banasik, Jordan Banasik, and Will Norment; aunts Fran Dennehy and Arlene Banasik; and cousins Tony Banasik, Carolyn Liedtke, and Michele Banasik.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. A Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at the funeral home with a closure prayer from 3:00 p.m. – 3:20 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church (Springfield) on Monday, August 14, 2023 followed by a private family burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the individual's organization of choice.
