Obituary
Michael Raymond Bassler, affectionately known as Mike, passed away on
May 30, 2023, in his hometown of Columbia, MD. Born on October 3, 1997,
Mike was a loving son, brother, and friend who brought joy and laughter
to everyone he met.
Mike was born to Lori Vallerani and the late Raymond Bassler. He was the
beloved brother of Sylvia Uhl, and the late Steven Bassler; and cherished grandson
of Joanna and Nicholas Vallerani. He was also a dear nephew to Keith and
Regina Vallerani. Mike's family was an integral part of his life, and he
was deeply loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Mike graduated from Howard High School and went on to earn an Associate
of Arts degree from Howard Community College. At the time of his
passing, he was furthering his education by attending classes at the
University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). Mike's determination and
commitment to his education were a testament to his hardworking nature.
As a creative and talented individual, Mike had a passion for watching
and critiquing movies. He had a keen eye for detail and a unique
perspective that made his movie reviews both insightful and
entertaining. Mike's love for film was only matched by his love for
music. He played lead guitar in a local band, where he showcased his
incredible musical abilities and shared his passion with others.
Mike also enjoyed spending quality time with his friends, playing board
games, and engaging in lively discussions. He was known for his quick
wit, sense of humor, and ability to make everyone around him feel at ease.
Those who knew Mike best would describe him as funny, creative, and
loving. He had a heart of gold and a genuine desire to help others.
Mike's warm personality and caring nature made him a cherished friend to
many and will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
As we remember Mike, let us celebrate the life he lived and the joy he
brought to so many. His memory will live on in the hearts and minds of
all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Rest in peace,
Mike, and may your light continue to shine brightly, guiding us through
our darkest days.

Micheal was a great friend. I played D&D with a group of friends and he was just an excellent person to get to know. I will miss him playing music with his guitar. He was our bard and I will miss him dearly

Michael was a great friend. I'll always cherish the memories of Thursday night D&D sessions. Hearing him play the guitar during epic battles or just soft tunes while we all talked. He was a little quirky but that's what we loved about him. A gentle soul that could light up a room with any random game fact or just telling you what he was thinking about. I'll miss his humor and the way his voice would jump several octaves when he'd get excited. I hope that he is in peace and wherever he may be, he knows just how loved he was.

I remember we were hanging out with some other friends playing a table top game and he brought out his guitar and started to play and sing. He did this at times and made everyone smile and we all would join in and sing too.

Michael was a kind-hearted man and very quick-witted with his humor. During any lulls in our group Dungeons And Dragons games he would play the guitar and lift our spirits. When he talked about what he was passionate about, he had this gleam in his eyes that made you not want to interrupt the train of thought he was on. Talking to him is one of the many things I will miss about Michael. He was a very calming presence in an, otherwise, chaotic friend group. The world is a darker place without you, Michael, and I hope in the beyond that you know just how loved and appreciated you were because I know that my words do not fully do you justice. Rest in Peace, my friend.
