Michael Lee Bennett, 79, of Dike, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Western Homes in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 21275 U Avenue, Reinbeck, IA 50669. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025 at Abels Funeral and Cremation Service – Dike Chapel. The visitation will continue on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. A private graveside service will take place following the service. A time for fellowship where lunch will be served will be at St. Gabriel Catholic Church immediately following the service.
Michael was born on October 19, 1945, to Raymond and Arlene (Smith) Bennett in Clinton, Iowa. He was raised in Fulton, Illinois where he graduated High School in 1964. After High School Michael attended Truman University in Kirksville, Missouri obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education graduating in August of 1968. Michael met the love of his life, Georgia Murphy where they attended college together. They were united in marriage on August 17, 1968, where they were blessed with two children. They raised their family in New Hartford, Iowa. Michael retired after 39 total teaching years which included; Brookfield, Missouri, Lohrville, Iowa, New Hartford, Iowa, and the restructured Dike-New Hartford School District. He was a coach for numerous sport teams for 35 years. Those who knew Michael knew that he absolutely loved collecting Marvel and DC comics creating quite the collection over the years. There will be comics set out at the visitation and service for those attending to take one in his memory.
Michael will be missed by his wife, Georgia (Murphy) Bennett of 57 years, two children; Dawn (Sean) Hughes of Waconia, Minnesota, Daimien (Suzanne) Bennett of Dike, Iowa, six grandchildren; Megan (Donovan) Hart-Thomas, Andrea Hughes, Hannah Hughes, Alex Andersen, Lillien Bennett and Sophia Bennett.
