Michael Stephen Birbal, age 75, passed away peacefully in his Sharon, Massachusetts home on Thursday, December 17, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Fyzabad, Trinidad and Tobago on March 3, 1945, he was the son of Manoo and Dhanti Elizabeth (Moosai) Birbal-Singh. He was raised and educated in Trinidad, earning his bachelor's degree from Victoria College in 1967. Following his graduation, Michael took a position with Texaco, working as a deckhand on one of the tugboats stationed in Trinidad.

Michael married his beloved wife, Jennifer Anne Jhurilal, on October 19, 1969. Together they made their home in Trinidad, until they immigrated to the United States of America in 1978. Upon arriving in the US, he and Jennifer settled in the Jamaica Plain area of Boston, Massachusetts, and Michael took a position with General Electric in Lynn, working as a machinist. In the late 1980s, Michael left GE, taking a position with Proctor and Gamble, which later became Twin Rivers Technologies. While working at Proctor and Gamble, Michael earned his Third Fireman's License as well as his Second Engineer's License, taking on the position of boiler operator. With his new job and credentials in hand, Michael relocated his family to Greensboro, North Carolina in 1994 for three years. Ultimately he moved his family to Sharon, Massachusetts in 1997. Almost twenty years after moving to Sharon, Michael retired from Twin Rivers Technologies, and was delighted to take on his new role at home: caring for his grandchildren.

Family was most important to Michael, and he did everything he could to ensure they were well cared for. Prior to having his own family Michael looked out for the happiness and well-being of his many nieces and nephews in Trinidad. As a jack of all trades, he looked forward to taking on various projects to create the home his wife, Jennifer, always wanted. On many occasions, Michael would pack up the car and take his wife and children on various family road trips, up and down the east coast and into Canada. At the end of every day, he made sure to say his prayers and sing a hymn or two with his children and grandchildren close by.

While Michael spent most of his free time with his family, he took some opportunities to indulge in his love for everything country western. Whether it was watching his favorite country movies, listening to old country music, or picking up where he left off in a recent book, he loved it all. In addition, Michael enjoyed following boxing, with his favorite athlete to watch being Muhammad Ali, and spending time perfecting his yoga techniques.
