Michael Don Black a devoted husband, cherished, proud grandfather, beloved brother, passed away suddenly the morning of September 15th 2024, at home. He was born on August 11th, 1943, in Delta, Utah, to Louie Jane Humphries and Harold J Black. As the youngest of six children, Michael carried the warmth and love of a close-knit family throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as four siblings, Betty Lou Colby, Peggy Ray Davis, Gloria Jane Labrum, and one brother, Harold Keith Black. He is survived by his brother, Peter H. Black.
Michael grew up in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City after his family relocated from Millard County in 1950. An industrious individual, he balanced school and work during his teenage years, dedicating 40 hours a week to help support his parents who were ill. He graduated from Highland High School in 1961, showing the determination and resilience that defined him throughout his life. Following a year at Utah State University, he embarked on an LDS Mission in Florida from 1962 to 1964.
Upon returning home, Michael joined his father in selling Kirby vacuums, where he first met the love of his life, Diana Marie Franz, on a blind date. Their connection blossomed, leading to their marriage on June 18th, 1965. Together they created a family, welcoming their daughter Camille Marie Black on February 15th, 1967, followed by their son Lee Michael Black on February 11th, 1971. Michael famously remarked that all his children needed to be born in the same month to help him remember their birthdays.
Throughout his life, Michael was a dedicated and hardworking provider for his family. He began his career with Western Airlines at the Salt Lake Airport in 1966 and continued there until 1979. Michael then pursued real estate, obtaining his real estate license in 1976 and his broker's license in 1979, operating two successful brokerages until his passing. He also ventured into entrepreneurship, starting two ice cream and sandwich shops named Cloud 9 in the Murray and Bountiful areas. His commitment to his community was evident as he served as president of the Little Cottonwood Tanner Irrigation Company for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Diana, his daughter Camille (Curtis) Fisher of Paradise, Utah, and his son Lee (Betty Jo) Black of Cornish, Utah. Michael took immense pride in his family and is remembered fondly by his nine grandchildren: Jamie, Nick, Cody, Clint, Brooke, Lauryn, Ty, Jessie, and Josie, as well as ten great-grandchildren: Reece, Kendall, Eliza, Halee, Lucy, Everett, Maya, Pax, Kaden, and Chase. His love and support touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
